PI refers to the conformity degree of system power supply to certain parts after it passes certain transmission network and reaches at certain part ports. The smaller the current system design core power supply voltage is, the bigger is the average current and routing density. Digital component conversion speed is getting faster and faster, which result in the outstanding power network issue.
If IR drop is beyond standard, components on the board will not work due to overvoltage or undervoltage. Huge current density on certain areas of the board will result in rising temperature on certain areas, even may result in burning of the board. Inappropriate placement of capacitors and capacitor specs selection will result in resonance of power network and EMI problems, even IC working voltage can’t meet chip manufacturers’ requirements and it will not work.
